Dhanraz Ramdharry is a classically inspired artist dedicated to mastering the techniques of the Old Masters. For years, he has studied under various tutors, continuously refining his craft and deepening his understanding of classical artistry.
His portraits pay homage to art history, employing traditional pigments and mediums on linen canvas, illuminated by natural light. Committed to preserving and sharing these time-honoured techniques, Dhanraz recently opened his own art school in Southbourne, where he teaches the skills and traditions he has developed over 14 years of practice.

Proud is a portrait of Dhanraz Ramdharry’s Uncle Danny, a man of Irish heritage whose pride and resilience are captured in a quiet yet powerful moment. Seated in his well-worn chair after a long day’s work, he drifts into thought, reminiscing about his former home in Ireland. Though the concept for this painting emerged years ago, it was only last year that Dhanraz felt ready to do it justice, bringing depth and emotion to the piece through careful composition and detail.
Proud
The Girl in the Blue Coat is a heartfelt portrait of Dhanraz Ramdharry’s daughter, Ruby, alongside the family dog, Bagel. Painted from life, the piece weaves together symbolic elements that reflect Ruby’s hobbies and passions, creating a deeply personal narrative. Each detail is thoughtfully chosen to evoke a sense of comfort and belonging, capturing the essence of what makes her feel “at home”.
