Esmee Rundle is a third-year Fine Art student at Arts University Bournemouth. In her practice, she explores themes of home, memory and identity, gravitating towards bright colours and the intimacy of work on a smaller scale.

This painting depicts Esmee’s cat, Mars Starlord. Living in university accommodation where we aren't allowed pets, Esmee often finds herself missing the companionship only a cat can provide. Often, when her parents want to check in, they send her pictures of Mars Starlord, normally when he's being goofy or particularly gorgeous, and these photos always act as an anchor, or a moment of calm, in her often whirlwind uni life.
Whether she’s on the bus, stressed over a deadline in her room, or out exploring Bournemouth with friends, Esmee sees a photo come through and knows everything is alright back home.
