Untamed Africa is a side table inspired by Hannah’s South African heritage and her visits to family in her home away from home: Cape Town. The fun colours and bold graphics capture the warmth and excitement she associates with my time there. Incorporating handcrafted techniques like carving and screen print reflect a strong cultural identity, and the symbols are influenced by El Loko’s Cosmic Alphabet which represents universality and the breaking down of cultural boundaries. Hannah hopes this piece offers viewers a glimpse into her South African home while encouraging them to reflect on their own culture.
