Meg Abbott creates artwork in numerous different forms, with subject matter that is often comforting, peaceful, and inspired by the natural world. As well as painted traditional artwork, she practices digital work, textiles, and other handcrafted arts. Creating has always been a central part of who she is, helping her connect to herself and the world around her.

Meg Abbott

Habitual was born from the theme of "belonging", prompting Meg to explore what it means to feel at home in a place. Initially conceived as a digital artwork, she chose to rework it into a more traditional form to bring a personal, tangible connection to the piece, taking more time to engage with physical materials.

The patchwork quilt motif evokes a sense of home, recalling the handmade quilts crafted by the women in Meg's family. The quilt blocks symbolise natural elements from both her original home in western Canada and her adopted home in Dorset. Regardless of where home is, we carry the essence of what makes us feel at home, stitched together like a patchwork quilt that wraps us in comfort.
